A year in the green for david: Online environmental resource celebrates first anniversary

David Oglaza is celebrating the first anniversary of his venture guidemegreen.com, an online resource designed as a platform for ethical and environmentally-friendly businesses to promote their products and services. The site advertises over 200 companies and other organizations, from restaurants and hotels that offer organic food to national mail order companies that offer fair trade clothing.

"Consumers are becoming increasingly ethically and environmentally conscious," says oldham-based david, 29, "And I wanted to offer a solution to people who are concerned with such issues by creating a business with very strong ethical credentials". The first year has been very successful, and david hopes to build further on that in the next 12 months.

David first became interested in fair trade and the environment while working in rural Nepal where local textile workers often worked in dangerous conditions for little more than 50 pence per day. After returning from Nepal he completed a masters degree in development studies.

guidemegreen.com reinvests into charities in the uk and internationally, donating 10% of its revenue to charity projects. "profit is important but it shouldn't be the sole driving force behind business decisions," says David.
