Wikaniko stands for ‘We Can Eco’ and already, it is proving to be an outstanding success in the distribution of eco-friendly household and personal products. Promoting greener living, Wikaniko is an interesting company that helps you to unravel the mysteries of ‘greenery’ and at the same time gives you brilliant free tips and ideas for reducing spending, wastage, and the effect on the planet.

Over the next 12 months, in association with Environmental Partners Ltd, we are aiming to plant ten thousand trees in Africa.

Together, WiKanDoIt…….

“Doing less harm to our environment is not enough. We must also do some good”

To this end, we have begun our campaign to plant much needed trees in Africa.

Our work in Ethiopia is concentrated in two main districts; Wolkete and Butajira. The trees are currently being planted near the town of Wolkite. It is the ‘capital’ of the area just south of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. The area is desperately in need of trees both for environmental and resource requirements.

We can personally visit the Wikaniko Tree Project next year, to film it and show you the good that you’re going to be doing. Or we can arrange trips for you to go and see it for yourself!

Why Africa?

Trees grow three times faster in Africa than they do in the UK. Therefore, our trees will help negate the carbon impact on our environment a lot faster. A tree planted in the African climate can reach 20ft in 2 years, so we’ll get results in our lifetime.

The trees improve living standards for families, and the local economies. The tree planting helps them generate a sustainable income from food, medicines and shelter.

The trees are used both to provide a wage for poor people in villages and to help sustain the villages with produce, firewood and materials for building etc – so the world gets a lot more benefit than simply planting a tree to help reduce carbon emissions!

Trees allow vegetation and other growth to survive in harsh conditions by retaining water in the soil and providing shelter from direct sunlight etc. Trees can, if managed correctly, provide a massive range of unexpected benefits and natural resources including medication which can be used locally and sold throughout the world.
These trees also remove great quantities of carbon dioxide from the global atmosphere (the major "greenhouse gas" (GHG) responsible for global climate change). Trees take this carbon and turn it into things people need such as food, clothing, shelter, medicines and organic fertilizer - in doing so returning the carbon to the soil.

Let’s sum-up the benefits of planting the trees

· Provide food, medicines and shelter

· Improve living standards

· Rebuild worn soils · Reduce erosion

· Replenish groundwater aquifers

· Create microclimate conditions

· Encourage the return of indigenous species

· Improve soil quality for agriculture and bio-diversity

· Reduce our carbon footprint

How can you help?

To order your trees, please visit the online shop www.mygreenbug.co.uk and place your order from the Trees category. You can also contact your local distributor, Sophie Bishop 07814 886 873, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We reckon that the average person would be able to offset their own carbon footprint by having just 10 trees planted each year. So please think about this when ordering your tree – and if you can’t afford more than 1 right now, make a pledge to offset your carbon footprint with Wikaniko, as we aim for our target of ten thousand trees!
